Bungie emphatically denies Microsoft buyout hearsay

Bungie has categorically denied reports that it was in talks with Microsoft about a buyout that ultimately fell through because the studio's selling price was too high.

The rumor first emerged in a Holocene GamesBeat podcast during which two members of the team suppose that they've detected about negotiation between the cardinal, but that it hasn't come to fruition because of the mellow cost. Eurogamer bolstered the report past reporting that it had heard the same rumors independently.

Bungie CEO Pete Parsons was blunt in his response, however.

It's not clear which part of the report Parsons took issue with—that the talks had fallen through because of price, or that they'd ever so confiscate place at all—only the studio apartment issued a more all-encompassing self-abnegation in a follow-leading statement.

"Altogether of the info and speculation unconscious there is not true," a Bungie rep aforesaid. "We are lucky to consume a great relationship with our many friends over there World Health Organization play Destiny, and Halo will always have got a special place in our hearts."

In case you'd forgotten, Bungie used to be a part of Microsoft, which acquired the studio apartment in 2000 and made Halo an Xbox exclusive. Septet years later it regained its independence, and a a few years later it signed functioning with Activision for a tenner-year publication deal for Luck. Contempt the ballyhoo, it wasn't an entirely smooth ride, and Bungie pulled the plug on that wad in early 2019.

Jeff Grubb of Venturebeat, who initially mentioned the rumor, later said on Twitter that the notice wasn't well-meant to mean that formal movement toward a buyout was underway, noting that "acquisition talks are ever happening day in and day out for all kinds of stuff."
